CITY OF HOUSTON MAKE SAFE SATURDAY

Houston Mayor Annise Parker launched Make Safe Saturday, a new quarterly neighborhood cleanup initiative.  The citywide initiative targeted blighted properties that are in violation of City codes but do not meet the criteria for demolition.  These are properties for which owners have been cited for nuisance violations and have failed to correct the problems.

To kick off the initiative, City crews and neighborhood volunteers cleaned up 8 blighted properties in the 5100 block of Mallow Street in Sunnyside on Saturday, March 2, 2013.  TPOS founder Dr. Karla Brown and board member Margaret Jenkins participated in the event.
